Foxtcn, February 25. On Wednesday afternoon Beach residents gathered at the school to farewell Miss Clover, who has been transferred to Wanganui. Messrs. A. Alsop, J. K. Hamilton (chairman of the Foxton School Committee). F. A. Mason (headmaster), and Miss Thompson, a member of the teaching staff, paid tribute to their guest. Miss Clover was presented with a leather hat box from the pupils, and n camera from the Beach residents. Miss Clover thanked the donors for their gifts, and said her sole obie-t bad ixien fo serve others during her sojourn at the Beach. On Wednesday afternoon a rink, skipped by Walton (Messrs. Spring. Parker, Mattar, and Walton) succeeded in defeating the holders of tho Nve Ferns (Messrs. Sc'ndden, Webb, Huntley, Walker, s.), by 26—14.

Tiie annual meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board was held in Foxton on Thursday, presided over by the chairman (Trustee B. G. Gower). The chairman's report stated, infer alia, that rabbits had greatly diminished in the board’s area during the past year, and this was due, in a large n ensure to tho farmers realising tlie wisdom of rabbit eradication. The highways in the board’s district were 90 per cent, freer of rabbits than at tho time the Ixiard was constituted. The rate had been reduced during the year by Id., and was now 3d. per acre. There had been several prosecutions during the year made against farmers for failing to destroy rabbits. The thanks of the board was accorded Mr. F. C. Raikes, the hoard’s nominee on tho executive, who had rendered valuable service to tho board during tiro year, and to the inspector, Mr. D. IL Barron. The report aud balance-sheet were adopted, the latter subject to being passed by file Auditor-General. The rate for the ensuing year was fixed at id. per acre. At the conclusion of the annual meeting tho monthly meeting was held. A voucher for .£3lO 4s. lOd. was received from the Department of Agriculture. “Sidey time” was given consideration, and all members, with the exception of Mr. F. C. Raikes, condemned it, and it was decided to urge the Prime Minister, the member for the district, and the Farmers’ Union to strenuously oppose the extension of the Summer Time Act.

On Thursday evening the men of the 6th Battery (Napier) gave a benefit concert in the Town Flail in aid of J. Shortt, who was blinded as the result of the explosion of a. “dud” shell. During the evening Captain A. E. Lowry, O.C of the camp, referred to the object of the concert, and the Mayer (Mr. Perreau) thanked the battery for its practical sympathy. The programme was as followslnstrumental selections by battery orchestra, songs by Lieut. Bullock and Mr. D. It. Barron; recitations by I.ance-Sergt. Johansen and Mr. G. F. Smith; operatic dancing by Misses Rooro and Pritchard; instrumental duet, (violin and saxophone), Sergt. Hewson and Bomb. Willis; violin solo, Sergt. Hewson. The accompaniments were played by Miss Patterson. The entertainment concluded with the National Anthem. The gross takings amounted tc .£l5 odd. The men of the 6th Battery (Napier) broke camp, after a week’s training, on the racecourse on Saturday. They were replaced by a Palmerston North battery. Ono of Iho trainees received a badiy-cruslied hand as the result of getting it jammed by the recoil of a gun during live shall practice on Friday.
