WEALTHY RECLUSE MURDERED
SUSPECT DETAINED London, February 20. The police are confronted with a strange crime at Bude, Cornwall, where Richard Roadley, aged 84, a wealthy recluse, but with a reputation for generosity for the needy, was battered to death in his home. The room was ransacked, but a wallet containing £8 was lying on a chair. (Rec. February 22, 7.55 p.m.) London, February 21. A man has been detained in connection with the Bude murder. The police investigations show that Roadley was wealthier than expected. He had £2OOO in the bank, and had inherited £30,000 worth of property in Lincolnshire. A will was found bequeathing all his possessions to charitable institutions in Cornwall and Lincolnshire.
