EMPIRE SETTLEMENT ACT
AMENDMENT WANTED London, February 21. Mr. A. A. Somerville (C.) supported bv eight Conservatives, introduced a private Bill into the House of Commons to amend the Empire Settlement Act bv allowing aid to be extended to persons engaging in industry and agriculture in the United Kingdom; also imparting training either here or in the Dominions, the expense of which may be recouped, from the payments the trainee receives under the I nemploytnent Insurance Act. A new clause wipes out the limit of expenditure on training here, and permits the department to bear the whole or part of the outlay. It also proposes the creation of an Empire Settlement Board of five members to carry out the Act under the Minister’s control.
