COMMUNIST ACTIVITY IN BRITAIN
FIFTY CANDIDATES FOR GENERAL ELECTION (Rec. February 22, 8.40 p.m.) London, February 22. Asked whether he could confirm a rumour that fifty Communist candidates would run at the next general election, an official of the British Communist Party replied: “I am not in a position to say at present.” This followed a message from Moscow saying the executive of fibe Communist Internationale recommended the British Communists to run as many candidates as possible against “unsatisfactory Labour leaders.” The Internationale also declared that British Communists must not insist upon a merely Labour Government. They must ' demand a revolutionary Labour Government, and the executive urged an immediate campaign for a Communist daily newspaper.
