BRITISH INDUSTRIES FAIR
INAUGURAL BANQUET DUKE OF YORK INSPECTS NEW ZEALAND STALL By Telegraph —Pbess Association. Copyright. (Rec. February 21, 9.50 p.m.) London, February 21. The British Industries Fair banquet was a representative gathering of ambassadors, high commissioners, agentsgeneral and traders’ organisations. Sir James Parr was present. 'The Prince of Wales sent a message stating that it was a hopeful augury that the record number of exhibits coincided with the dawn of a new era in British trade at home and abroad. Sir Phillip Cunliffe-Lister, chairman, said buyers from seventy countries were attending the fair. Sir Austen Chamberlain expressed the opinion that the fair was a marvellous example of the recuperative powers of British industry, disproving the foolish allegation that the country was decrepit. “ It was realised that trade was becoming one of the great factors of world peace. Mr. L. S. Amery expressed the opinion that the fair was a tribute to the efficiency of British industries. This synchronised with the growth of efficiency and production throughout the Empire, providing the best basis for the growth of trade and inter-relations. (Rec. February 21, 8.35 p.m.) London, February 20. Sir James Parr received the Duke of York at the New Zealand stall at the British Industries Exhibition. The stall attractively features butter, cheese, honey, wool, mutton and lamb, and earned encomiums from the Duke, who drew attention to the transparent picture of the interior of a creamery and noted its resemblance to one visited by himself between Auckland and Rotorua. He congratulated Sir James Parr on the maintenance of the popularity of the Dominion’s chief exports to Britain.—Sydney “Sun” Cable.
