LAWN TENNIS

AUSTRALIA v. FRANCE BRUGNON AND BOUSSUS PAIR WELL Sydney, February 21. The lawn tennis tests, France versus Australia, were continued in fine weather, but play was confined to one court which had been covered. This was at first a bit sticky, but afterwards improved. J. Crawford (N.S.W.) defeated C. Boussus (France), 6 —3, 5—7, 6—4. The winner’s display was weak, his serving without sting, and unworthy of a Davis Cup representative. The Frenchman fought well, but missed many easy chances of scoring. Brugnon and Boussus defeated G. L. Patterson and H. Hopman, 6—l, G—4. Apart from powerful serves, Patterson was below form, except at the start. Hopman was clever in serving, taking service splendidly. Brugnon was the star of the four, brilliantly serving manv aces.

Borotra defeated H. Hopman, G—4, 6—4. The Frenchman displayed better courtcraft, and was particularly good with smashes and cross-court volleys, but the loser was not disgraced, participating in several fine rallies.
