CANADIAN TRADE TREATY

CONSERVATIVE MOTION AGAINST IT Ottawa, February 20. Mr. C. N. Canan (Conservative) moved a Tory amendment to the Budget this afternoon —“That the House regrets that the measure does not tend to provide increased employment in Canada nor to induce the return of the Canadian native to the land, nor to prevent the continued emigration to the United States; nor does it make provision for the preservation of domestic markets for the Canadian farm and dairv products.” The latter clause is aimed at the Australian Treaty. The Saskatchewan Legislature by 4« votes to 5 refused to endorse a resolution stating that the Australian Treaty is not in the best interests of the dairy industry of the province, and that the Dominion Government be requested to take steps to remove handicaps from the treaty.
