RUBBER RESTRICTION SCHEME

QUESTIONS IN HOUSE OF COMMONS Rugby, February 20. The Prime Minister was asked in the House of Commons whether he had received from the Rubber Trade Association a communication with regard to allowing the present rubber restriction scheme to remain in force until October 31, and whether he was able to give an assurance to that effect. Mr. Baldwin replied that in accordance with the notice issued by the Colonial Office on February.!, no change could be made in the scheme for three months from that date. When the Government took its decision on the report of the committee which was inquiring into the matter it would pay full regard to all British interests involved.

Replying to supplementary questions, Mr. Baldwin said he could not tell when the committee would be able to report. In any matter of this kind, unfortunately, there must be a certain amount of uncertainty. He would, however, expedite the report. Sir Austen Chamberlain was asked whether any communications had passed between the British and United States Governments within the past two months on the subject of the rubber restriction scheme. He replied in the negative.—British Official Wireless.
