MASTERTON BAND

NEW RECOMMENDATIONS Masterton, February 20. There is likely to he a ‘eng.th.v discussion at to-morrow night’s meeting of the Borough Council on matters relating to tho municipal baud. The band has of late had a somewhat chequered career. as considerable difficulty has been experienced in keeping the company together through the inability of its members to obtain suitable employment in the town, necessitating their removal. The last discussion by the borough council on the matter resulted in the conductor withdrawing his resignation and agreeing to continue in office until the end of the financial year. March 31. It is understood that the band committee has a recommendation to make at tomorrow night’s meeting concerning the appointment of a conductor for a further period, and this is likely to raise the question of whether the council is to continue paying a subsidy to the band of £2OO per year. .
