BUILDING TIMBER
USE AT AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE Palmerston North, February 20. With further reference to the use of imported timbers in the construction of the dairy factory at Massey College, the Prime Minister wrote to a meeting of the Palmerston North Borough Council this evening, stating that he had been informed by officers of the Education Department that it was impossible in all cases to obtain properlyseasoned New Zealand-grown timber of the size and length required in certain jobs, where conditions were somewhat out of the ordinary, and be was prepared to direct that the whole of the timber to be used in the Dairy School be New Zealand-grown, provided that the following conditions obtained:— (1) That there was no delay in supplying suitable seasoned timber of the necessary lengths and sizes; (2) that the cost of such timber was not such as would increase the cost of .building.
On the motion of Councillor Hodgens, the letter was received.
