eMr. J. O’Dea, who has been spending his vacation in Hawera with his parents, has returned to Dunedin, where he will again take up his medical studies. Mr. J. W. Laws, of Napier, is on a visit to the National Park. Dr. Freeman, of the Agricultural Department (Hastings) has been in Palmerston North. Mr. R. McDonald, who has been spending a holiday in Palmerston North, has left on his return to Dunedin. The death occurred at Eketahuna yesterday of Mr. John Bassett, at the age of 83 years. Deceased was born at Motts Mill, Sussex, England, and came to New Zealand in 1874 in the Jessie Redmond. He farmed at Miki Miki, and in 1889 removed to the Eketahuna district, where he resided until 1920, when he retired. He leaves a widow and three sons—Messrs. A. J. Bassett (Waihoki), W. H. Bassett (Johnsonville), and J. J. Bassett (Petone)—and two daughters, Mesdames Tildesley and Albrechtson (Masterton). There are eleven grandchildren. TO LADIES.
