A Ross correspondent writes to the Greymouth “Star”:—A mysterious disappearance of a river or creek is sometimes easily accounted for when the reason is diligently sought. Owing to the present drought, Donnelly’s Creek at Ross is running very low, and visitors who travelled upstream were amazed to find that above the intake of the Lime Company’s race, the creek bad disappeared underground. On going a mile further upstream, several heads of water were running. They began to wonder wliat was the cause of the disappearance further down. When the water reached the race, did it descend into some subterranean passage in the limestone, or where did it go?.
