“BEAUTIFUL FISHING COUNTRY”
ANOTHER VISITOR’S TRIBUTE
At present touring the Dominion’ is Mr. N. Everitt, a well-known author of a number of books on fishing and hunting, Mr. Everitt, who has travelled in practically every part of the world in search of big and small game, expressed himself, when in Wellington on Monday, as delighted with what he had already seen of sport with the rod in New Zealand.
“I came out in a very doubtful frame of mind about our big fish stories.” lie said, “but I am perfectly satisfied, rftei catching a number of beautiful tonpound rainbow trout at Taupo, Hint this is the most wonderful fishing country in the world. Tf you could transport a few miles of the beautiful Tonrrariro River to England. tlio fishing rights would be worth £20,000 a year. On his way out from England, Mr. Everitt tried fishing in Australia, which he considered fair, but nothing to what New Zealand has to offer. “Over there,” ' said Mr. Everitt, “one has to beat the river banks for snakes, which is decidedly discouraging to the would-be angler.” Mr. Everitt added that after-trying out some of the Southern Lakes he honed from the material collected to publish a hook on the sport to be obtained in the Dominion. He wns sure a great number of English sportsmen would visit New Zealand in the near future.
