NEW STEAMERS
FOR UNION COMPANY A LARGER AORANGI It has been decided by the directors of the Union Steam Ship Company to place an order for a new passenger steamer to reinforce the Sydney-Auck-land-Suva-Honolulu-Vancouver mail service. The new liner will probably be of a slightly larger passenger capacity than the Aorangi (17,491 tons). The directors of the company have also decided that the time has arrived when it is necessary to consider the placing of an order for another steamer for the Wellington-Lyttelton passenger service, somewhat larger than the turbine steamer Wahine, to provide larger passenger accommodation than that vessel. This decision has been arrived at in view of the growing passenger traffic between Wellington and Lytelton, and a desire to keep ahead of requirements. Sir Charles Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, is to leave for England by the Aorangi, sailing from Auckland next Tuesday.
