The Minister of Labour (Hon. G. J. Anderson) left for the south last night en route to Mataura. The Minister will be absent from Wellington for about ten davs.
The Postmaster-General (Hon. W Nosworthy) left for Christchurch last night. He is expected back in Wellington early next week. Sir John Roberts, of Dunedin, arrived in Wellington by the ferry steamer yesterday morning. Colonel J. Sclater, traffic manager of the Canadian Pacific Railway for Australia and New Zealand, is at present in Wellington. Mr. H. E. Holland (Leader of the Opposition) will lay the foundation stone of the new Trades Hall in Wellington on Saturday. Air. T. Al. Wilford, ALP. for Hutt, accompanied by Airs. Wilford, will
leave Auckland by the Aorangi on Tuesday next for Vancouver, cn route to London, /to visit their daughter, Aliss Isobel Wilford, whose recent appearances at the Lyric Theatre have been highly successful. A meeting ot Air. Wilford’s combined election committees at Petone last week wished Mr. and Airs. Wilford God speed, and passed a resolution expressing good wishes to Aliss Wilford “on her recent notable achievement.” Mr. and Airs. Wilford will return to New Zealand via the United States, in time for the opening of the next session of Parliament. Professors A. H. Tocker, R. Campbell, H. B. Kirk, and 11. Denham arrived in Wellington by the Uliniaroa from Sydney yesterday. Air. S. Craig, accompanied by Airs. Craig, arrived in Wellington yesterday by tlie Ulimaroa to take up the position of Wellington manager of Famous Lasky Film Service (N.Z.) Ltd., vice Mr. W. W. Duff, who has resigned. Air. Craig has been transferred from Adelaide, where he was branch manager with the same firm.
Mr. M. A. Carr returned to Wellington by the Ulimaroa yesterday from a visit to Sydney. Messrs. H. Whittle and L. du Chateau, of Wellington, returned yesterday by the Ulimaroa from Australia. The death occurred on Monday of Mr. Frederick Mountier, overseer of one of the composing rooms of the Government Printing Office, and well known to the craft in Wellington. Mr. Mountier, who was 60 years of age. was an old member of the Poneke Football Club. He served his apprenticeship to the trade in the Government Printing Office, where he was highly esteemed. The deceased was a single man. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon of Air. Alexander Veitch, an ex-president of the Wellington Bowling Club, and an ex-member of the City Council. There was a very large attendance, including the Mayor (Mr. G. A. Troup), the president of the Wellington Bowling Centre (Mr. M. Marks), the president of the Wellington Bowling Club (Captain McArthur), with the directors, and a large number of members. Other city bowling clubs and Lodge Waterloo (Freemasons) were numerously represented. The pall-bearers were Messrs. N. McLean, A Erskine, T. Page, J. Brinsden, and W. E. Bethune. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Dr Kennedy Elliott and the Rev. J. Baird. Mr. B. Haines, Master of Lodge Waterloo, conducted the Masonic service. Plav was suspended on most of the bowling greens until 3.30 p.m. as a mark of respect to the deceased.
