AMATEUR ATHLETICS

£2OO FOR OLYMPIC FUND NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL’S DECISION ■ Mr. H. Austad presided over a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last night, 'there were also present Messrs. \v. Alorton, JL Connop. E. C. Guy. A. Urquhart, H. Franklin, and L. Iracy. It was decided to donate to the Olympic Games Fund, with the approval of the trustees of the Bose r l\ust Lund, the sum of £2OO, provided that the money were used to send a representative or representatives of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association overseas. At the same time it was decided to approach the various centres and ask them to co-operate with the Olympic Association. When the matter was raised Air. L. Tracy objected that if the fund were broken into it might be dissipated in a few years. As it was, if the interest were paid over, it would amount to about £2OO every four years. Air. E. C. Guy: I don’t see the point of that. We have the athletes now. In another four years, or eight years, we might have the money, but no athletes to send. Mr. H. Franklin: I think that all the money should go into one fund and that none of it should be earmarked. Tiie chairman: If vou feel that, Afr. Franklin, I will take an amendment. Afr. Franklin: Oh, I don’t know that I feel as strongly as all that. The chairman: The fund is over £lOOO, and is invested by the Public Trust. I may say that I have been told that we might draw the interest, £37 10s., now, if we want it, und that we may withdraw from £lOO to £4OO without voiding the whole investment.

Messrs. IT. Austad and V. Hugo were appointed a suli-comniittee to make nominations of athletes to represent New Zealand at tho next Olympic Games.

Tiie application of TV. Cubitt for reinstatement was referred to the Otago Centre for a report. Tt was decided to forward tho names of K. T. Camhie. G Alley. TV. Cook, G. Sumpter, and F. TV. Bobinson to the Board of Control with a recommendation for reinstatement.
