OBITUARY

MR. PAUL HUNTER

The late Mr. Paul Hunter, who died in th e Waipukurau Hospital on Monday evening, following the amputation of a leg, rendered necessarv by blood poisoning, was a brother of bir George Hunter, M.P. for Waipawa. The deceased gentleman was one ol the best known "settlers in the Hawkes Bav district. He followed agricultural pursuits and had a large sheep Station at Papakihau. the property being portion of a large stretch of country taken over from the Maoris by the Government when Sir George Grey was Governor. Tl-.e Papakihau station is about 28 miles from Waipukurau, and at one time was occupied by deceased’s late father, who, incidentally, was the first Mavor of Wellington. Mr. Hunter was a noted stock and dog breeder, specialising in Shorthorn, Jersey, and Hereford cattle, and Clvdesdale horses. His flocks and herds were renowned throughout the Dominion, having been built up bv the importation of pedigree sires from Australia and the Old Countrv. The late Mr. Hunter was a member of tbe Waipawa Hospital Board for verv many years. He took a keen interest in local body affairs, and any movement which had as its object the betterment of the district had his earnest suppo* A man of verv benevolent instincts, he did a great deal of good of which the public knew very little.
