MUSICAL COMPETITION
WELLINGTO NSINGERS VISIT. Dominion Special. Palmerston North, December 3. Members of tlie Royal Wellington Choral Union who are combining with the local choral society in the production to-morrow night of “The Messiah” were accorded a civic welcome to-night by Mr. A. J. Graham, Deputy-Mayor, lie stated that this was the first occasion on which the two societies had joined forces and he had no doubt but that the event would be memorable. He said that the local society valued greatly the visit of sue hsocieties as the Wellington Union, which would largely assist in stimulating in Palmerston an appreciation of true music. The work of the choral societies was worthy of the best assistance of the publie, which could do much in giving its support and encouragement. He felt assured that this would not be the last occasion on which the two societies would combine. Mr. M. Cohen, on behalf oft the Palmerston Orchestral Society, also spoke in welcome, and said that it gave him great pleasure to associate himself and his society with choral activities. Other speakers were Messrs. L. Fde Berry (president of the local Choral Society)’;- and J. Runnicles (conductor). Mr. Heron, chairman of the committee of the Wellington Union, stated in reply’ that it gave the visitors pleasure to assist the local organisation in their production as the fine musical appreciation of the communitv of Palmerston was well known. Mr. H. Temple White also spoke.
