RIVER CHANGES COURSE

Dominion Special. Christchurch, November 30. Because the Waiau River changed from its old channel at the time of the recent floods there is a distinct possibility of the rail way. bridge at Parnassus being left high and dry, while the river scours a new path through the permanent way. Instead of proceeding straight towards the big railway bridge the river now turns at a point about three-quar-ters of a mile from the centre of the bridge and runs parallel with the railway line for that distance before it turns again and runs under the bridge. An endeavour is therefore being made to divert the river back with groynes. Railway rails are being driven to form a training wall.
