HEALTH IN THE ISLANDS

EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD YEAR. Dominion Special. Auckland, November 30. According to Dr. Ritchie, Chief Medical Officer at Samoa, who arrived by the Tofua this morning, the year has been an exceptionally good one on the island, as far as health was concerned. The native population had increased by 930, and there were now 38,000 people under the Administration. The incidence of hookworm had been successfully tackled, and had shown unmistakable signs of being stamped out altogether. Much attention had been directed to child welfare, and jthe results in that direction had been more than were anticipated.
