PARLIAMENTS PRAYER
WHY MEN ARE EXCLUDED. “Parliament is a most curious place,” remarked the Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright) at a reception accorded last night in the Pioneer Club hall to Mrs. C. W. Earle, president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Wellington Reform League. “You ladies who have taken seats in the gallery have, probably noticed when you go in at 2.30 that Mr. Speaker opens the House with prayer. You are allowed in to hear it, but the men are excluded. I once inquired the cause of this distinction and I was told—l do not assert it tuyself—that the reason was that Mr. 'Speaker believes that the ladies of New Zealand need the prayers of the House more than the gentlemen!” (Laughter.)
