ACCIDENT AT THORNDON STATION When crossing the railway track between the locomotive sheds /and the main platform at Thorndon on Saturday afternoon a wharf labourer, named James Simpson, was knocked down by a suburban train from Johnsonville, receiving serious injuries to his head, a lacerated right arm, and fractured right leg Although the train- was steaming slowlv at the time into the No 2 dock, at the north end of the platform, Simpson was caught up under the cowcatcher of the engine and dragged for a few vards The victim was removed to the Public Ho'spital. His condition is serious, although last evening a slight improvement was reported. He is a married man with two. children, living, at 16 Glenbervie Terrace, off Tinakori Road. Another man, who was crossing the line in company with Simpson, managed to jump clear in time and escape unhurt. The hospital authorities reported nt a late hour last night that the condition of Simpson was not quite so satisfactory.
