WEST COAST TRADE
COAL AND TIMBER REVIVAL
Dominion Special.
Christchurch, November 27
An average of between 2300 and 2400 tons of timber and coal is now being carried dailv bv the Railway Department from the West Coast, the present period being of extraordinary activity. The business offering requires eight goods trains daily. The,. rush now experienced is partly due to the accumulation of goods caused by the interference with traffic recently by the floods. The Department has made intense efforts to restore the permanent way, and trains are now running freely again with the exception of a section or so. The demand for railway wagons has been intensified by a definite revival in the timber trade, which for many months had languished. Export orders have been received and the sawmills have become active.
