Thefts of books from the public lib rary have become rather more frequent of late, and the authorities have endeavoured to put a stop to the depredations. A strict watch has been kept for some time, and as a result a man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court this morning with stealing from the public library a book valued at ss. Gd., the propertv of the Canterbury College Board of Governors. A woman was charged also with stealing two books valued at 12s. Tn both cases the names W-ere suppressed by the Magistrate. The man was remanded to appear to-mor-row, and the woman till Friday.
