A YOUNG CHILD KILLED

KNOCKED DOWN BY MOTOR AT PETONE While endeavouring to cross the Esplanade, Petone, at about 3.30 p.m. yesterdav, Jack Pickles, aged 5J years, of 11 Vera Street, Karon, was knocked down by a motor-car driven by Mr. Andrew Perry Warring, of 179 Onepu Road, Lyall Bay. Dr. Hislop was hastily summoned, and, after attending to the child, ordered the latter’s removal to the Wellington Public Hospital, where he was admitted at 4.35 p.m., suffering from concussion of the brain and other injuries. So serious were the injuries received that, although everything possible was done for him, he died at a. 55 p.m. It is understood that the deceased, who was crossing the Esplanade in the direction of the beach when the fatality occurred, walked behind another motor-car, which obscured the vision of the driver of the vehicle by which he was knocked down. An inquest will be held.
