FREEZING DISPUTE

KILLING TO COMMENCE AT FEILDING A. AND P. ASSOCIATION S SUPPORT Dominion Special. Feilding, November 21. Killing will commence at the Feilding Freezing Works next week. Members of the Freezing Workers’ Union will be offered work as usual, but should they decline the offer the company will carry on under other arrangements. It is considered that matters have been so organised that the works will commence operations in the course of a. few davs whether union workers answer the call for labour or not. ■lt a general committee meeting of the Feilding A. and 1’ Association the following resolution was carried.— “That this meeting in the present critical situation of the freezing industry uses its best endeavours to support the farmers in securing voluntary labour to carry on the primary industries of the country, particular!}’ the freezing industry, and that in the event of men refusing to carrv on, the meeting pledges itself to' assist in every possible wav, and, further, that the time has arrived when the Government should introduce legislation to abolish preference to unionists.” In speaking to the resolution, Mr. Sandilands said it was time the farming interests and others set out to secure the abolition of preference to unionists Farmers were hard up against it, and vet these men were breaking their agreement and asking for increased i wages. It was criminal in his opinion that tiiese men should hold up the industry. Costs of production had increased bv (>0 per cent., and farmers could not' face further costs. Other speakers also spoke m favour of the resolution. GISBORNE COMPANY’S ULTIMATUM BY TELEGBAPn. —Pacss ASSOCIATION. Gisborne, November 21. Two local freezing companies, the Kaiti and Waipaoa w'orks, will, commence operations to-day. Unionists will be given an opportunity to apply for work, but if they do not make application voluntary labour will be taken
