RETURNED SOLDIERS’ WAR INJURIES
MEDICAL EXPENSES BORNE BY STATE 13Y TELEGRAPH-:’ ' Hawera, November 20. A reserved decision of particular interest to returned soldiers, and bearinc; on recent legislation providing that returned men were entitled to relief and medical expenses incurred as tbe result of war injuries, tile expenses to be borne bv tbe State, was delivered by Mr late, S.M , at Opunake yesterday. He emphasised that, although the expenses were incurred prior to the passing of the legislation in 1921, relief ■ ould be obtained if war injuries were proved to be responsible. The case arose from a rlaim by a medical practitioner against a returned soldier for professional f«s while attending to an illness suffered by the defendant in 1923. ._ The Magistrate found that the diffi- . cultv arose through plaintiff’s neglect to advise the authorities in the matter. He gave judgment for the defendant.
