POLICE AND SUMMONS CASES

Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., dealt with police and summons cases in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Leslie Robert Ashfield, a seaman (aged 20), who admitted stealing a cash box containing a gold ring, a silver curb chain, and three sapphires, valued in all at £3 12s. 6d., the property of Solomon Cross, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Convicted on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient means of lawful support. Albert Thomas Wood, a cook, was sentenced to fourteen day’s imprisonment with hard labour. William John O’Shea/aged 29), who broke a pane of glass while being ejected from the Brittania Hotel on Thursday, was fined .I'2 in default 21 days imprisonment. He was also ordered to pay 10s., the amount of the damage doneFor casting offensive matter on the street. William Logan, a bootblack (aged 74), was fined £2 in default 14 days’ imprisonment. Charles Sydney Holley (aged 19), was lined .£l. file amount of his bail, for a second offence of drunkenness.

SUMMONS CASES. Wong Lowe, a Chinaman, was fined 10s. for working in his garden on a recent Sunday. For failing to close his shop at 1 p.m. on a statutory half-holiday, T. Andrew was fined 10s. and costs.
