SELECTION OF “MISS NEW ZEALAND” TO-MORROW MISS McCUBBIN, POPULAR FAVOURITE “THE REAL BEAUTY OF THE PARTY” Dominion Special. Auckland, November 18. Auckland is now right in the grips of the beauty contest, tor there are but two more nights to go before “.Miss New Zealand’’ will be proclaimed to the people of the Dominion. A preliniinarv. to the grand Imai night on Saturday will take place to-morrow night, when “Miss Auckland’’ will be presented. On the voting to date Miss A. Sutherland is still in the lead, and, there is little chance of the final voting tonight upsetting her poistion. • Miss Ellen Eord is second on the list, but there is just a chance that to-night’s night upsetting her position. Miss Distin Strange, who is at present m third place. Miss Queeuie Grahame remains fourth. The prospects and chances of the various candidates are being well discussed, especially now that the whole of Auckland has seen all the beauties in person, either at the theatre or in various places about the city and subUf Miss Doreen McCubbin, Wellington’s beautiful representative, is one of the popular favourites. “She will be hard to beat,” said a well-known citizen with an eve to beauty, to-day.” ' I do not want to be disloyal to Auckland, but I think we are all sports enough to agree that Miss McCubbin is the real beautv of the party.” Miss Isobcl Wilson, too, is one of the best discussed of the southern girls. Both girls continue to enjoy themselves here and are given great ovations at the theatre nightly. . There was a pleasing little ceremony at the Royal Show to-day. when the beauties paid an joflicial Visit. After the partv had been introduced to the president and officials, the girls were taken to the Press room, where journalists had gathered to make a presentation to Air. Pascoe for his good work as Press steward. Mr. J. Steel referred to Mr Pascoe’s services, after winch he called on “Miss Wellington” to make the presentation, winch she Gia most charmingly. Mr. Pascoe, in reply said that'as an old Welhngtonian he'was delighted that he should receive the gift from the hands of Wellington’s representative beauty. He had admired Miss McCubb.n from the moment of her choice, and wished hei the best of hick, as he did all the other beauties. “Miss Otago then filled the gift, a silver cigarette case, with cigarettes. Mrs. Alys Law, aunt and chapcrone to Miss McCubbin, is now freely established as “Airs. New Zealand,” and is introduced as such everywhere.
