A man, over 70 years of age, aud said to be an inmate of the Auckland Infirmary, wandered on to Queen’s Wharf at midday to-day and climbed on boar the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Ruapehu just as she ivas sailing for Glasgow. His presence on boar was observed after the steamer ha dcast off her mooring lines, too late for him to be lauded at the wharf. In consequence he made” a trip as far as Rangitoto, when he was placed on the pilot lunch Waitcmata, which brought him back to port. He did not try to stow away ou the Ruahine, but stated in a somewhat muddled way that he should like to make the voyage home.
