LYALL BAY PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. The Lyall Bar Progressive Association held its annu >1 meet: .g last night, Mr. J. H. Btirgoyne-Tliomas presiding. The report stated that members hart taken a keen interest during the year in matters pertaining to the welfare and improvement of the district, but their efforts had been sadly hampered by the Citv Council’s lack of funds, and any work which was not considered of vital importance had been shelved by the council for the time being. The report stated that deputations had waited upon the council during the year seeking improvements to the beach and the widening of Queen’s Drive from Coutts Street, together with formation of the footpath to Freyberg Street. In regard to beach improvements, the Reserves Committee stated that they had no monov available, but would welcome an effort by the association to raise fu>nds for the work. In regard to the widening of Queen’s Drive. '-o-incil. winm tliree months decided to proceed with this undertaking, but allowance was made only for a 30-foot roadway instead of 40ft., with high and low level footpaths on each side. Efforts were made through the Civic League and he Eastern Suburbs League, to get the council to adhere to the original plan of a 40ft. roadway, owing mainly to the activity of Mr. A. G. Blake (vice-president) it was possible that the council would make this provision, the work being held up in the meantime, pending negotiations from the council to acquire certain properties which would require removal before the project of a 40ft. roadway could be proceeded with. The balance-sheet showed a credit or XlO 14s. on the year’s workings. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President. Mr. J. AL Burgoyne-Thomas; vice-president, Messrs. A. Howitt. A. C. Blake, P. Cairns, YY. Usher, and W. F. Sherwood; executive committee, Messrs. F. Larway, Q. Bruce, H. Harris, L. Button, J. H. Thompson, E. W. Simmons, R. L. Jones. W. T. SEdwards, W.
