I SELWYN CLUB'S EVENING MEETING The first of a series of evening athletic sports meetings to be conducted this season was held at Athletic Park yesterday, when the Selwyn amateur Atbletic Club carried out a most interesting programme. In the one mile A grade cycle handicap, G. Bright, who was in a good position while going out for tho third lap, had a nasty spill. Apart from a severe shaking, however, he suffered no injury. The race was won by C. Flett (scratch), who. in a most exciting finish managed to get home by a bare quarter of a wheel from P. W. Robinson (scratch), who came rvith a great burst of speed over the last few yards. A Wellington team of young ladies, who will soon be meeting a team from Gisborne, had a try out in a 449 yards relay race and did the distance in 54sec. At. the amateur athletic club’s sports to-day Miss N. Eastwood, the Poverty Bay champion, ran 150 yards in 17 3-5 sec., claimed to be the fastest time for the distance by a lady runner in Near Zsaland.
