DOMINION TOURNEY FOUR MEN LEFT IN - SINGLES Bt Telegraph—Pbess AssociationDunedin, January 12. At the Dominion Bowling Tourney the singles competition was continued to-dav in beautiful weather. At the close of the day’s play four players remain in, namely:—Foster (Caledonian), two lives; Tretlieway (Caledonian), Carswell (Taieri), and Edwards (Temuka), one life each. SOfitE NOTES ON THE PLAY. At Caversham Foster (Caledonian) bad a very easy win over Maher (West End, Auckland), the latter retiring when the scores were 21 to 10. Wade, the English singles champion, made a rather ’poor showing against Ellis (Timaru), being five down on the twentv-eighth head nn<\ in the eighth round was eliminated by Anderson (Caledonian), who won by 27 to 7. Of 17 heads played, Wade won 3. Foster won liis games with Andersen and Wright (St. Tltiiers), going into the ninth round with one loss.

Malcolm mid Mair (England) who had gone through the first day without a loss, were eliminated at the Caledonian green, where Trcthewav (Caledonian), Weir (Otago), and Afclntyrc (Hamilton) survived. M. Walker (Ponsonbv) was one down to 'Tillie (Caledonian) in a match played at North-East ’ Valley. It rt7IS~ a brilliant game of drawing. Walker was eliminated and Tillie dropped out when he met Edwards (Temuka). Edwards won by 17 to 17 after a game devoid of brilliance, but very steady. Another ex-champion, E. Harraway (Dunedin) dropped out at Kaituna. In the ninth round Foster proved too good for Mclntyre. Carswell (Taieri) was accurate in drawing against Fustier (St. Clair). From the seventh head Carswell forged ahead, and won easily. Anderson failed to reproduce his earlier form against Hayman, being live down. It was a game of excellent drawing, Hayman being at his best. Although improving fast in the final stages, Wright failed to make up an early deficiency of six points. The game between Weir (Otago) and Bentlcv (Dunedin) was even till the concluding heads, when AVcir increased his lead to six poynts. Edwards (Temuka) deserved to win over Falconer (Otago) 'through his dogged chase. In the tenth round the match between Foster and Weir was a good exposition bv Foster, who won easily. Weir retiring at the seventeenth head with the scores 23 to 9.

Trcthewav had matters nearly all his own wav against Hayman (who was feeling the effects of jtarlicr strenuous games). In a match in which the early headswere poor and the final ones brilliant, Carswell beat Mclntyre. The Hamilton plaver did not catch Carswell till the nineteenth head, and was 1. uji at the commencement of the final head. With one bowl to play, Carswell had evened the scores,' and scored by a wonderfully judged draw, winning by one point.
