HELP FOR PRISONER

POSTAL OFFICIAL FINED P,t Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Alay 4. In the Alagistrate’s Court, a postal official, whose name was ordered to be' suppressed, was fined £lO on each of two charges of taking out letters from a prisoner in Alouut Eden Gaol, and taking to him a parcel of tobacco, stamps and envelopes. The evidence showed that Albert Charles Cant, the prisoner- concerned, induced the postal official, who called at the gaol for post-bags repaired there, to take out a number of letters, including one to his brother, suggesting a bogus petition for release. This was placed in a bag which accused missed, and its discovery by other officials led to police action.
