HINDENBURG EFFIGY
CUT UP FOR FIREWOOD London, Alay 1. The Nationalists desired to celebrate von' Hindenburg’s election by restoring the wooden effigy 120 feet high, which was erected in Berlin during the war-time, in which patriots paid for the privilege of driving nails into it. A diligent investigation reveals that the statue was sold to an architect after the war for a shilling’s worth of paper marks, and that a wood merchant subsequently purchased it and cut it into firewood.—Aus.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
