The refusal of Mr. 11. M. Jones, tho ncw!v-clect.-d Mayor of Eastbourne, to use iiis position as Mayor to convene a meeting of the Eastbourne Carnival Committee, as suggested !by Mr. I'. H. 'Mather, was submitted to Mr. Mather on Saturday. Mr, Mather replied: "I am not concerned with what Mr. Jones thinks. I know his attitude. I refuse to discuss tho matter further.’' No less than 38,000 tons of steel were used in the construction of the Forth Bridge. If this quantity of steel were concentrated in a single mass, it would make a lock of metal 450 ft. long, 30ft. wide, and 80ft. high.
