VICTORIA COLLEGE
MEETING OF COUNCIL.
The Victoria College Council met last night, whe-n there wijre present: Messrs. P. Levi (chairman), Y’aylor, R. AlcCallum ALP., A. R. Atkinson, 11. A. Parkinson, Professors T. H. Hunter and Adamson. Mr. Parkinson took his seat on the council for the first time, and was welcomed by the chairman. Professor E. Marsden wrote as follows: —"I am happy to be able to inform you that an anonymous donor has handed £l5O to me for the purchase of sprcial physical apparatus. The donor trusts that tho Government £ for £ s ’ l ' ,sl "y will bo obtained, thus making £3OO in all. He has approved of the following purchases being made with the money: Standard western ammeter, IM, standard western voltmeter, .688 lbs., Lummer Brodhun photometer screen £23; rotary converter (second hand), £29 Bs.; theodolite, hydrogen, balloons, etc., for special research'on the tipper atmosphere near Wellington. £/0; total, £3OO. I trust you will agree to a cce P* the gift under these conditions I have already handed the £l5O to the registrTh- registrar stated that he had made application for the Government subsidy. P I P t was decided to accept the donation nnd to ask Professor Marsden to thank the anonymous- donor for the generoi > of £2O each towards the memorial window at the college w received from Messrs. Swan, Lawrence, Swan, and Hamilton, and from Mr. C. A Mr a W. nC G. Harwood was appointed assistant to the chairman of the Pro fe F sorial Board as from February 1, 19--, The tender of Messrs. A. and T. Butt nt £1212 was accented for the lighting contract at the college. Accounts amounting to .61790 were passed for payment.
