DANNEVIRKE MEETING AUREATE SCORES IN BIG HANDICAP. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent. Dannevirke, December 11. The Dannevirke Racing Club’s summer meeting was held to-day in fine weather. The going was good. The totalisator handled £17,769, compared with £31,531 at the corresponding meeting last year, a decrease of .613,762. All started in the Hack Hurdles, the favourite bring Wamba, whose name did not appeal’ in the published list of acceptances. TKe Absurd gelding took charge at the start, and holding a big lend all the way he ran home an easy winner from Mannikin and Sling Camp. Royal Gift, the second, favourite, fell nt the second fence, but his rider, A. McDonald, was not injured. The winner jumped well, .with the exception of one fence, when ho dipped badly, but made a clever recovery. In tho Maiden Plate Matareka was made a good favourite. At the start the favourite, . Civilform, and Haeremoana were prominent. Entering the straight, ■A. Reed rushed Slave Mart to the front. Civilform hung badly, and the leader got a break which she maintained to . tho finish. Civilform beat Matareka by a head for second place. Birkenella came .from.a long way back and was going, well in fourth place when the post was reached. Tari, Tigrinia and Sasanof was the order of the favouritism in the Ohanga Handicap. There was a long delay at the barrier and when the field moved off Lovematch was first, out, but soon gave way to Tari, who led into the .straight. Bunny then ran to the front and looked like winning, but over the last 100 yards Hepta came fast and won by a neck. Lovematch finished well in third place, and then came Martian Miss, The latter was tailed off at the start and gave ' the field a pig break. In the Juvenile Stakes Wairarapa was made, a better favourite than Moorland. The two Began smartly and together info the straight. Then Moorland shook off his companion, but Native Queen finished very fast and got up to make a dead heat of it. Wairarapa was two lengths away, and Menthe was beaten off. A ■ The big handicap was the best of goou things far Aureate. Moitsonia set a ■ fast pace, but at the half-milo Molyneaux and Admiral' Codrington headed her. The pair were in front to the straight, where The Speaker took charge, but a furlong from home Aureate headed him, and going on she won very decisively. Sycorax finished well in jhira place' and then came Admiral Codrlngton, Molyneaux, and Bonetter. The fast pace suited Aureate, who seems to stay well, and will probably be allowed to take her place in the Auckland Cup. Tn which she is liable to be rohandicapped. . All started in the Tamaki Handicap, Deucalion being made favourite, with several of the others well backed. Edendale began best and led for two furlongs, w'hen Mountain March took charge and though challenged by Jackaroo and Deucalion in t'he straight, the lightweight held her own and won by * head from Jackaroo, with Deucalion a further head away. Convention was fourth. . A field of eleven contested the Onngi Welter Handicap, Princess Pat and Bonny Briar being made favourites. At the start Chrysostom and Truthful jumped off best, but Bonny Briar soon headed them and led past the six furlongs with Automoana. Across the bottom Truthful fell back and Bunny took the lead. She was first into the straight, but was then challenged by Bonny Briar. The pair were fighting 1 out the finish when Makere rurfhed up on the outside, and at the finish won by a length from. Bonny Briar, who beat Bunny by a neck. Moutoa Ivanova and Chrysostom were tho next to finish. All started in the Ruahine Welter Handicap, Patuki being made favourite, with Sweet Song second choice. FiveEighths led down the back from Rebuff, but with 'half a mile to go Royal Gift had command. He was not headed again and won very easily from Sweet Song, t'ho Hastings-trained Suspicion and Kail being the next to finish. The winner has been a most consistent performer of late and he should add further to his score during the holidays. DETAILS OF THE RACING. By Telegraph —Press Association.
