Soma months ago tlie Education Dopartment dr&w the attention of the Collogo Governors to the fact that the junior department at the Girls’ College was not paying its way, and, consequently, would have to be dispensed with. In connection with this department, whore primary education is imparted, the regulations only provide for its maintenance so long as the fees pay for its cost, the reason being that primary education was provided free in the Normal School next door for all children, and thore was no call to run a junior department at the college which did not pay. This department has not paid for years, and the Education Department has this year forced the hand of the governors, who have now decided to close down the department''at the end of the school year.
