AUSTRALIA V. SOUTH AFRICA OPENING OF THIRD TEST MATCH \ By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. November 27, 5.5 p.m.) Cape Town, November 26. The third cricket Test match, Australia v. South Africa, opened to-day. The weather was fine, tho wicket in excellent condition, and’ the attendance very large. Armstrong, Oldfield, Taylor, and Hendry were omitted from the Australian side. South Africa won tho toss, Frank and Zulch opening the innings. They batted steadily and were still together at luncheon, though four bowlers had been tried, and the fielding was of tho keenest description. Frank lost his wicket with the total at 50. Zulch played a good game, occasionally punishing the bowling. He took 140 minutes in making his half-century. After his departure a collapse set in, Taylor, Blanckenburg and Carter tfeing the only batsmen showing any confidence against the wellhandled bowling talent. The fourth wicket went at 106, the sixth at 110, and tho eighth at 146. The last wicket put on 29. Ryder in the earlier stages bore the brunt of the bowling and effectively kept down the runs. McDonald' bowled with great pace, and at one stage sent down four overs for six runs and captured two wickets. Mailey accounted for three of the last four wickets, tempting the batsmen to hit out. Very smart fielding did the Test. The Australians’ wickets were still intact when play ceased for the day. Tho scores are as follow: —
