GANDHI GREATLY PERTURBED UNABLE TO CONTROL SPIRIT OF REVOLT By Telegraph—Proas Association—Copyright (Rec. November 20, 5.5 p.m.) Delhi, November 18. DuTlng the Bombay riots tho rioters barricaded the streets and hurled stones from the housetops. Several bayonet charges were necessary. Besides Tour killed, thirty police were injured. The rioters’ casualties are unknown, but they were considerable. Two hundred were arrested. The night passed quietly. No trams are running to-day. Gandhi is much perturbed over the outbreak. He declared that he; was chiefly instrumental in creating a'spirit of revolt and now found himself incapable of controlling and disciplining that spirit. His campaign will prove unsuccessful unless he is able to generate a complete spirit of nofi-vioienco. Gandhi proposes to observe a weekly fast of twenty-four hours as a penance. Gandhi points out that the non-co-operators are pledged to protect the Prince of Wales from harm and insult. Hartals have been declared throughout IndiaTn connection with the Prince’s visit. —Reuter.' Delhi, November 18. The most serious riots in Bombay cc.ourred while Gandhi was making a speech against violence. Europeans’ csrs were stoned by tho mobs, trams were Burned, and bazaar'shops were set cn fire.
