A TALENTED BAND OF RING SPECIALISTS. Neither old nor youn" can resist the attraction of the blaring band, tho gaily-caparisoned horses, the dazzling lights, the scont of tho sawdust arena, or the gaudy costumes of tho clowns and dummies. When added to all this a combination comes along like St. Leon’s, with generations of circus success in all lands behind it, it has tho power of the Pied I ipor of Hamlin Town to lead mankind whithersoever it listeth. St. Leons Cir cus opened its Wellington season with a matinee on Saturday afternoon, when the spacious marquee, which is located -at tho junction of Wakefield and Taranaki Streets, was crowded, as it to again at tho evening performance. St. Leon’s have for many years past been noted for tho excellence, of their ring events. They carry no consequently concentrate on attiactions in the sawdust arena. The Rentfrow troupe gave a display of human statuary, which alone was worth the admission _ money. Tho St Leon’s are strong in riders, and the turns provided by Reuben St. Leon and hte educated ponies (Including the mute who plavs football liken Springbok). Roy St iLii and his four flying steeds, and Onchita (the Indian fire rider) all greatly pleased with their finished displays In addition there were trained dog's,' sheep, and even pigs, who performed wonders. The fun was kept merrily going by the dummies and clowns, at'tho head of whom came the veteran Gus St. Geon. 81 years of age. who is an experienced humorist oj the ring. The Horlev Trio, his grandchildren, and fbe sixth generation of St. Von -s. furnished a very bright turn This sterling performance, which w without the slightest trace of vulgarity, will be repeated this afternoon and evening, and the, season will conclude to-morrow.
