RUGBY FOOTBALL
N.Z. UNION AFFAIRS. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met last night, Air. G. AV. Slade presiding. The chairman stated that he was not aware to what extent, if any, the French Government intended to subsidise the forthcoming tour of a French Rugby tea m. A communication was received from the Canterbury Union, intimating that the letter sent by its president (Mr. S. F. AVilson) to Dr. Thacker, president of the Canterbury Football League, had been forwarded without the consent or knowledge of tho union. (The letter, it trill be remembered, dealt with proposals to link up the rival codes). A request from tho AA’ellington Union for financial assistance in improving Athletic Park was adjourned for consideration with other similar applications. The Goldfields’ Union (Paeroa) asked for authority to form a separate union, to lx* known as the Thames A alloy Union. Mr. S. Deans said he considered that the northern territcrirs should centralise rathei*'»Hian attempt to affiliate direct with the parent body. Following a short discussion as to the present position of country unions, Mr. Deans moved thatthe matter be referred te the secretary of tho AA’aikato Union (Mr. M'Devitt)'. It was decided to request him to report progress in connection with the recent South Auckland conference that took place at Hamilton regarding country unions. Tho secretary stated that he had received information that ar. ''Australian" representative lir.d been appointed to the International Board. It was decided to hold over any discussion until advice was received from the union’s representative as to whether lhe representative was "Australian” or "Australasian”. The board will consider the "amended rules” question. The union’s representative in England forwarded an article on Forward Play, written bv Dr. L. G. Brown, eantain of England last season, a brilliant forward, nnd member of the Blackheath Club. A vote of thanks was necorded Mr. G. Howe, for his services ns touring r"presentntive with the N.S.AA’. team that toured New Zealand recently.
