THE TIMARU TRAGEDY
FUNERAL OF MURDERED CONSTABLE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, August 30. The funeral of tho murdered constable, James Dorgan, this afternoon, was one of the largest ever seen in Timaru. It was attended by the regimental band, all the police of the district, and 2U from Christchurch, representatives of the Defence Department and Public Services, the municipality, and other local organisations. Requiem Mass was sung in the morning in the Roman Catholic Church, Father Hurley officiating there and also at the grave, where he eulogised the deceased. AU other denominations were represented in the cortege. The pall-bearers were members of the local Police Force. Shops in tho town were closed for half an hour to allow proprietors and staffs to be present. The weather, which was fine, though cold, permitted a large attendance. The Commissioner of Police would have been pro. sent, but the steamer by which he travelled failed to connect with the train. He telegraphed tho text of his address, which wag read, after the funeral service. The search for the murderer has so far been without result.
