Mr. F. Meadowcoft (president) presided over the fortnightly meeting of ]tho S.B.C.A'. Committee on Monday.present were: Messrs. Watson, Kilgour, Forrest, (£> Leslie, Cole, and Car- . Gd. Pleasure was expressed at the gratifying response to the appeals of the organiser. It was stated that calls were to be made on all business houses. Captain Henry (inspector) presented a report showing that ho had looked into a number of cases of alleged cruelty. He had destroyed a horse and a cat, and put a number of horses off work for varying periods. In one case of alleged flogging it was decided to take action af the Magistrate's Court. Further allowances were made to witnesses in recent cases, to make up for

wages lost. / Letters were received from the Lovin * and Longbush Junior Leagues stating that great interest “was being' taken in the movement in those schools. Notice was received from the Publio Trust Office of a legacy of A5O from n Wellington resident, who had not been a member of the society, in appreciation of the good work being done by the S.P.C.A. Final arrangements were made as to conditions for the proposed essay com-

petition, and Mr. Leslie and the secretary We appointed a sub-committee to carry tue competition through.
