SOCIAL WELFARE WORK
REPORT TO HOSPITAL BOARD. •./ The Social "Welfare Committee of tho Wellington Hospital Board,,yesterday reported. as follows; — The number of cases dealt with during tho month of July was in excess of the numbers of the two previous-months, tho figures being:—July, 128; June, 118; May, 97. Tho grounds of the applications were as follow:—Unemployment, 89; desertion, 12; sickness, 30; widowhood, 26; old age, 9; imprisonment, 3; miscellaneous, 9. In reference to tho unemployment class it will be understood that tho above figures do not mean that *B9 cases were receiving advances continuously during the whole period, (but that this was the total number dealt with. The number of cases actually standing at the close of the period was 17. . ■ The comparative table for the month of July is as follows:— '.
