LATE HON. J. G. W. AITKEN

HARBOUR BOARD’S REGRET. Among the many positions held by the late Hon. J. G. W. Aitken was that of member of the Wellington Harbour Board, which ho occupied from December, 1899, to April, 1905. At last night’s meeting of the board the chairman (Mr. J. G. Harkness) moved the following resolutioni— _ , _, , "That the Wellington Harbour Board ihas received with deep regret the news of the death of the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, who was, from 1899 to 1905, a valued member of th© board. 3.11© board desires to express its sincere sympathy with the deceased gentleman’s relatives in their bereavement, and. also to place on record its appreciation of the many estimable personal virtues of the late Mr. Aitken, and of the great value of his public services as a citizen of Wellington and member of the Legislature.’ Mr. Harkness said that undoubtedly a notable figure had disappeared froni the life of Wellington city. Mr. Aitken had left behind him an example of -uprightness and integrity that if would be difficult to emulate. As a public man he had rendered valuable services to the city; in private life ho had enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him. The resolution was passed with tho customary marks of respect.
