CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Timber Merchants’ Association is at present holding a conference in Wellington. Among tho vital questions that are being discussed is the prevailing depression in the trade, due to the high price of timber and the falling off in the building trade. The question of bringing about a reduction in the price of timber has been referred to. but it was said that the mill price was difficult to bring down owing to the high wages prevailing in the industry, which were said to account for 75 per cent, of the cost. The conference will be continued to-day.
