Lord Northcliffe, who is due in Auckland to-morrow morning, has informed Sir Francis Bell that ho wishes to make his stay in New Zealand as much a holiday as possible, and desires, therefore, that public functions shall be confined to the day of his arrival. He hopes io leave for Hamilton in the evening. Lord Northcliffe intends to visit Rotorua, end apparently will not come as far south as Wellington. He is to leave Auckland for Australia on September 3.

The Acting-Prime Minister (Sir Francis Bell) has arranged to leave for Auckland by tlie first express to-day. He will return to Wellington on Alonday. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates) will leave for the Waikato district this evening. He is to switch on the recently-installed electric light at Te Awamutu to-morrow evening. Ho will be in Auckland on Saturday.

Mr. J. A. Plimmer, of Khandallah, who has been on a visit to Honolulu and Australia, arrived back by the Manuka yesterday.

■Signor Antonio Nolariello has returned to Wellington after a most successful tour iu the country districts. The musicloving public will regret to learn that, owing to his Australian engagement?, it is unlikely that he will te able to give any further performances in New Zealand on his present visit.

Mr. James Brown, who represented the Otago district on the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and who has just retired from the position, was last night elected a life member of the society. Mr. Brown was a member of the council from the inception of tho society, and much regret was expressed at his retirement.
