SIXTEEN DWELLINGS DISPOSED OF
So far the City Council has erected and disposed of sixteen four and ineroomed dwellings at Northland, and a so satisfied with the results that foui more houses are at present in couise ol erection, and a tender is about to be 1 for the erection of three more all on the same block of land on the slopes of Northland. It is admitted that the cost of the houses is high, but the houses a particularly well built and finished and io much is built iu by way of f-ttm o s that the cost of furnishing is correspondingly reduced. So tar tho council have had no difficulty in finding purchasers for their houses—people ol some security in a financial sense, .the team, are easy. All an intending purchaser lias to do is to pay a minimum deposit of AoO m- as much in excess of that aniount as lie or she likes. Then the capital and interest is worked out on a -al 3C period at 7 per cent, per annum. No matter what amount is paid down by wav of deposit, tho t«rm of .repayment of Die balance remains the same, but the amount to Im paid monthly (inteiest and capital) is smaller. The only otliei provision is that the purchaser remain in occupation ol the house fo at least five years from the date of pui€hThat the City Council is able to sell five-roomed houses at Northland ioi t‘lsoo x>n such terms-indicates that tno house-hunger in Wellington is as fierce as ever.
